A Welcome Message from Council Member Halloran

Dear Neighbor,

We all know that times are tough these days.  Our families and business are forced to do more with less.

As your elected representative in City government, I know that our City must live within its means while still providing critical services to all New Yorkers.  I’m proud to say that we’ve saved firehouses and prevented teacher layoffs and other spending cuts that would have devastated the middle-class homeowners and taxpayers of our district.

I grew up here in Northeast Queens, and I love that our neighborhood has always had a sense of friendship and community.  We’re tight-knit and we stick up for each other.  When small businesses shut their doors, I often know the owners name.  When non-profits struggle to make ends meet, I see the impact it has on our working people.  When families are forced out because they can’t afford to live here anymore, I lose friends and longtime neighbors.

That’s why I’ve been fighting so hard to preserve our neighborhood while keeping taxes and fees down – even during these difficult economic times.

In the last few months, I worked to save Engine 306 in Bayside and the community pool at Fort Totten.  I introduced a law that would require the English language on business’ signs, helping keep our neighborhood safer.  I’ve fought to reduce assessments for co-op owners and water rates, and called on the City to preserve a war monument in Douglaston.  I’ve done this because this is our community, and it’s my job to preserve the quality of life here.

If you are concerned about an issue in the neighborhood, or if you have an issue with city government, please let me know.  Our office at 166-08 24th Road in Whitestone is open five days a week and the first Saturday of each month.  My staff and I are here to help you.

Through it all, I’ve enjoyed serving you.  I look forward to seeing you around the neighborhood!

Dan Halloran

Member of the City Council
